Recently we published an article on which nutrient groups you should eat to get better grades. Today I will take you through a few of our favourite foods to help you ace your exams!
Trail mixes are a super easy way to keep yourself energised during exams. Throw together some unsalted nuts, seeds, dried or fresh fruit and a couple of squares of dark chocolate for a yummy mid-exam snack.
Although plain, low-fat yoghurt can be really good for you and a great mid-exam food – the taste can get a little boring. Add some chopped up fresh fruit or a fruit puree made in a blender for a tasty snack without all the added sugars of some commercial yoghurts.
Peanut and cashew and almond – oh my! Nut butters are a nutritious and delicious snack to get you through those mid-exam hunger pangs. Whether it’s a peanut butter sandwich or apples and almond butter, these good fats and low GI carbohydrates will keep your energy levels topped up throughout your exam.
Nut butter are also really easy to make. All you have to do is throw some roasted nuts into a Vitamix S30 or food processor and blitz until you have a smooth paste.
Good old fruit and veg
There is nothing like fruit and veg – nature’s energy snacks! When choosing fruits and vegetables to take into an exam make sure you choose ones that are rich in fibre, to keep you fuller for longer. If you want something a little more filling, add a source of protein and good fats to your food. For example, a banana and peanut butter sandwich or carrot sticks and dip will go down a treat.
When bringing food into exams please keep in mind your fellow students. Don’t bring foods in noisy packaging or that will make a mess. And don’t bring anything that will stink out the exam room – I’m talking to you, that one person who seems to bring tuna into every exam!
Smoothies are a great way to pack all your essential exam nutrients into a tasty and easy to eat snack. Make sure your smoothies include some protein, low GI carbohydrates and good fats. I love to make this quick, easy and delicious banana and peanut butter smoothie. All you need to do is pop all the ingredients into high powered blender, like a Vitamix S30, to make the smoothest smoothie around – no annoying lumpy bits with one of these, even the chia seeds are blitzed up.
